Home-made 300 watt 4x10 Cabinet

Since getting the Super Champ XD, I remembered a friend of mine had an amp that he wasn't doing anything with. The amp was a Peavey Classic VT50 (4x10) from the 70s. I look at it and researched it and found that it needed some fixing and that it would cost more than it was worth to fix. So I bought the amp for $20 and planed to use it as a speaker cabinet.

Since I didn't need the amp part (which is quite heavey) I removed everything. I connected one input jack that is wired to the speakers. I then cleaned the tolex and the grill cloth. From there I moved on to the speakers. The amp in it current state It had 3 16 Ohm Peavey speakers and 1 8 Ohm 35watt Jensen speaker. I tried to reach the Peavy speakers, but couldn't find much.

My plan was to push the speaker cabinet with my newly acquired Super Champ XD and the Super Champ wants 8 Ohms. I couldn't figure out how I could take three 16 Ohm speakers and 1 8 Ohms speaker and make it 8 Ohms. So I opt'd to buy 4 speakers (costly venture).

I did research on different kinds of speakers and I ended up choosing Eminence speakers for the cabinet just as I had for the replacement speaker for the Super Champ. I did mixed the speakers this time using two Ragin Cajun and two Cooperhead. Very loud and very nice cabinet!!

I had a hard time making my own speaker cable. I had two right angle with a very thick speaker wire and I couldn't keep the positive from touching the casing. I did get it after three tries and with a friend who knows electronics helping me. I was doing my own soldering, which I don't do very well. Plus the speaker wire was a bit too thick for the connectors.

I'm very proud of my effort and glad that everything works.
