Into The Woods

I have been investigating the different woods on guitars and their sound. I own two Taylor electrics and none of their acoustics. I want the 814ce, but then I played the GS8e and now I want that. I found a good deal on the GS8e, but still can't afford it. I'm beginning to think that I don't need it. I'm not a professional singer/guitarist so do I really need a $2600 guitar? The answer is no, but I still want it.

Anyway back to the wood. I've been playing lots of different Taylor's and investigating the different models. I found the different models have different woods and that made me want to understand how the different wood combinations sound. Since I owned a couple of electrics from Taylor I get the Taylor magazine Wood & Steel and in the Fall 2008 issue they had comprehensive information on woods used on their guitars.

I read about the different woods and what they sound like combined with other woods and it was all very interesting. It made me pull out my 9 acoustic guitars to see the difference in their sound and which I preferred. I'll be recordings of all of my guitars in a separate post so you can hear the wood and body shape combinations.

Really looking at the guitars I own and the roles each guitar can play makes me appreciate what I have. Though I want a Taylor acoustic I have all of my bases covered with the collection I have.
