The Best Guitar Buying Advise

I was trying to make a decision on whether to buy the Taylor GS8e and I got this advise from a thoughtful man:

  • Is this going to sit in its case after the newness wears off?
  • Is it going to inspire me to play more?
  • Am I going to regret it later if I miss the opportunity?
  • What impact will it make in my progress?
  • Does the sound really grab you?
  • Will it fill the need for a style that you may want to play that your other guitars don't quite fit?
  • What about the comfort level?
  • How long have you played it?
  • Have you tried it more than once?
  • Make it a point to have the guitar put on hold for a day or two and go back to play it. Almost always the guitar will not sound the same, thought there may be an exception.

After thinking about these questions I realized I was mostly excited about the GS8e because it was on sale and usually Taylors are not discounted. I would have saved almost $600. The sound was good, but not inspiring and all styles of music I play are covered well, if not adequately, with the collection of guitars I already have.

P.S. Some other advice was to sell one or some of my guitars to get the money and make room for the new guitar in my collection. I like this idea as it gives me reasons to get the guitar instead of reasons not to. I am trying to sell some of my guitars, but no one is buying :-(. Damn economy!
